Learning System 101

Learning System 101

Hey! it's been a while since I updated here, I just wanna share a bit of what I'm about to implement from now on my learning process.

For so long I've fell into the rabbit hole of productivity, study techniques and life habits to improve. The content out there isn't bad, there's really good advice to apply out there. I just binge-watched many many stuff and applied little to zero of all the things they told me. I thought something was wrong with myself, but as I stated before, I really needed an overhaul on my mind to really start working on improving. And that's what I'm doing.

I just wanna share with you how a good Learning System should be looking for (thanks to Justin Sung's channel to help me build this):

(Why?) Useful technique (Prologue)

  • Name the Frame: Write down the why of your learning, why are you watching this workshop, this class, this career, etc. And be specific to help the mind how to change it and work to improve it.
My frame for this: Create a learning system to learn things on the long term, and spend time on another things in my life I wanna do

System & Techniques

  • Technique: Works for a specific purpose, it has pros and cons
  • System: A compilation of techniques, specifically chosen and used for different scenarios.

(How?) to build a System

Premise: What can I do today to make it easy for tomorrow me

Components of Learning System:

🌟 Priming

Make the thing you're gonna learn easy to process.
Build foundations first, details later

  • Skim the entire topic first, note most relevant keywords
  • Try to connect them together cohesively
  • See if it makes sense (Use IA to verify this process)

Look for multiple frames to the Topic

🧠 Processing

Do the thinking
Techniques doesn't matter that much
Look for what makes you advance on this hierarchy of understanding

  1. Get to know each concept
  2. Compare concepts & group them (similarity, vibes, etc)
  3. Rate 1/10 importance of each one
  4. Make purposeful connections
  5. Rate 1/10 importance of connections between them

Help ease this process
Take notes in non-linear way

  • To help your mind see how the connections are made and easily correct or reinforce anything necessary

⚒️ Performance

Prepare for Real-World use
Make tests:

  • At each level of knowledge: Big Picture -> Middle level -> Details
    • to avoid discovering big gaps with less time to correct them
  • On a regular basis: Do it since the beginning, at a steady pace
    • you'll get comfortable with the type of problems of the topic
💡 Good tip for small details: memorization techniques and practice exercises

Practice being involved in day-to-day problems
Be more efficient solving problems to master knowledge

PS: I'll be updating every time I learn something new to improve the system. For now it's a hella good basis! leave me a comment on what you think!!
